PPCP has recently completed their latest phase of expansion. Over 4,000 square feet of environmentally controlled foot print have been added to the Shell Room. The additional space contains a dedicated primary shell conveyor system. The new conveyor serves 2 purposes at PPCP: Increased Capacity and Improved Quality Control. “Whenever we can tighten our processes and gain capacity, it is a win-win,” states CEO Andrew Miller. The new conveyor has been operational for several weeks and has shown to deliver on all the expectations.
Additional expansion at PPCP is in late stages of planning and will be carried out within the next 18 months. The future plans include additional injection equipment, assembly cell increases in the wax room, and a second robotic dipping cell.
Shell Room Expanded at PPCP
Expansion Plans at PPCP
PPCP is working on another phase of expansion. Three years ago we added a second building to house all of our post pour operations. In addition we added a third pouring unit to ensure we do not run into capacity issues in the event of major downtime in one unit of our pouring operations.
Now we are expanding our Shell Room and Wax Department to ultimately enable PPCP to increase our potential capacity by 30 to 40%. As I write, walls are being constructed to expand our dipping operations. We will be adding 4,200 square feet to our Shell room. We will be adding a new primary hand dipping conveyor and cell. The expansion also sets up the space we need to add a second robotic dipping cell into our operations. Lastly, the department will gain much needed space for storing and drying sealed molds. PPCP is excited about our need to expand. We look forward to having the capacity to grow with the new customers we have developed over the past year.
Advantages Of Investment Casting
Investment castings are the optimal choice from the variety of casting styles in many cases. Investment casting creates and end product that can save precious commodities in comparison to other forms of casting like sand casting. Generally weight of steel and labor/machine time can be mitigated. Investment cast allows the design to be cast at net or near net shape. This means a ten pound sand casting could be an 8 pound investment casting and possibly need no machining versus the counterpart. Investment casting also provides a much smoother surface finish which can eliminate machining time as well. Generally there are some advantages to Investment Casting over fabriaction as well. In future posts we will demonstrate some of the details of the net cost savings versus sand casting and fabrication.
