Three Precision Cast Parts Tests You Should Know About

Jul 5, 2017

To ensure the quality and accuracy of precision cast parts produced by investment casting, high-tech testing and inspection is utilized. Here are three such tests:

Ultrasonic Testing – Sound waves provide extensive information about the internal structure of ferrous and nonferrous castings. It can measure wall dimensions and detect flaws such as porosity, inclusions, voids, cracks and more.

Spectrographic Analysis – By measuring the wavelengths of light produced from heated alloys, the exact composition can be determined. This helps ensure that the final castings have the precise alloy of properties specified.

Radiographic Testing (RT) – X-rays are used to produce images of castings that can reveal internal defects and structural issues. Shrinkage, inclusions and other issues can be identified that would otherwise go unnoticed.
