Essential Foundry Capabilities: Dipping and Coating

Aug 17, 2021

One of the essential foundry capabilities is dipping and coating. In investment casting, dipping and coating refer to the creation of the molds utilized to make the castings. Multiple wax patterns are connected to a structure called a sprue. The sprue unit is then repeatedly dipped into vats of stucco and ceramic, forming a hard shell. After the wax is melted away, molten alloy is poured into the molds. The selection of the dipping material and the actual coating process are critical to the quality and performance of the finished parts. Foundry staff must be knowledgeable and experienced to get optimal results.
