Zinc is a versatile and commonly used investment casting alloy. It is a non-ferrous metal that is often a component of other alloys because of its beneficial properties and performance. Number 30 on the periodic table, zinc is a lustrous metal with a bluish-white appearance. It is brittle at room temperature, but malleable at 212 – 300°F, making it simple use. It is also a good conductor of electricity, and zinc oxide ZnO is extensively used in a wide range of products. Zinc, along with copper, is a component of brass, and it is often used to galvanize metals such as iron to make it more corrosion resistant.
